Artist Statement
In 1971 I bought my first "decent" camera to photograph the birth of my first child. The results of that day were a wonderful daughter and a lifelong love of photography. While spending the next 30 years as a general surgeon I continued to take pictures, learn the art and develop the eye that makes it all work. I still am and will always be learning. Meanwhile I have been privileged to travel the world taking pictures. I will be constantly changing and updating this site to reflect my adventures. But in the end the most compelling subjects for me are people. Whether it is a chance meeting producing a documentary portrait or a studio effort, attempting to look inside people with the lens is what fascinates me most.

My original training was in the darkroom which made me partial to black and white. Notice that there is very little of that here now. Why? Because I have gone completely digital and have spent the last few years exploring the added color dimension and control it offers. We never had that kind of control over color in the darkroom and relied on labs to get it right. So it's a whole new world and I'm really glad to be away from the chemicals. I suspect though, as this phase of my journey passes, rather than go out onto the cutting edge and the bizzarre, I'll return to my black and white roots and fall in love with light all over again.
